Bern was founded in 1191 on a hill, surrounded on three sides by the Aare river. The Old City is a gem of medieval town planning and architecture, it includes 15th century arcades and 16th century fountains. It was restored in the 18th century, preserving medieval architecture. Bern is the de facto capital of Switzerland ("federal city") and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Jungfraujoch is a glacier saddle between two major peaks of the Bernese Alps: Jungfrau and Mönch. Jungfraujoch and the viewing platform of the Sphinx Observatory (3,572 m/11,719 ft) offer incredible views of the Aletsch Glacier and the Swiss Alps, they are on the top of the places to visit in Switzerland.

It is possible to hike on the glacier - the Mönchsjoch hut is about an hour away, and under the Sphinx is the Ice Palace - a man made cavern hewn out of glacial ice. Jungfraujoch is accessible via a more than 100 years old railway through a 7 km tunnel, the railway station is the highest in Europe.

The Lauterbrunnen area is one of the most amazing and popular places in Switzerland. Lauterbrunnen is a small town in the Swiss Alps, in a valley surrounded by snowy mountains and waterfalls. The nearby Männlichen mountain and the towns of Wengen and Murren offer incredible views over the Lauterbrunnen Valley and the Bernese Alps.
