The ancient Maya city of Copan (Copan Ruinas), Honduras, is one of the most spectacular cities of the ancient Maya civilization, known for its magnificent stone temples, altars, hieroglyphs, and stelae. Copán was occupied for more than two thousand years, but it reached its peak between 400 and 800 AD. The city was abandoned in the early 10th century.
